Camps A Rising has allied with Water Protector camps in Minnesota and Michigan. These camps serve as peaceful witness to the activities along the fossil fuel pipelines, “three” in MN and, “five” in MI. They connect in northern Wisconsin where another pipeline then moves oil south through Wisconsin to Illinois. Camps A Rising may also support other camps on a timely as needed basis. In addition, there may be various Water Protector projects we find deserve our support. We are part of the infrastructure that grew out of the Water Protector camps at Standing Rock, North Dakota. We all learned so much from our shared experiences that now camps are active throughout the United States.
The Minnesota Camps
Camp Turtle Island is located on the White Earth Reservation in Minnesota a few miles from the proposed Enbridge Pipeline 3.
Everyone is welcome at Camp, whether it be long or short term. We have 12 people in camp now with community members coming in to learn and support. All of us have plenty of knowledge with a lot to learn. We are prayerful and ready to build our communities back to the strong people we deserve to be.
We are a spiritual camp in addition to being a water protector camp. We focus on building and supporting the community around us through sobriety, prayer, and teachings. In camp we teach the true value and essence of family through teaching self love and sustainability by the “old ways and teachings”. We consider this a safe place for all, welcoming in all to learn and contribute, allowing our reach of peoples to expand.
We have recently harvested 100 iron wood poles that we will build an art center for the neighboring students add to our community. This large wigwam will also act as a transitional structure for new arrivals and elders.
We set up barter and trade with all camps in hopes to create a self-sufficient, unified system to help this fight move smoothly and efficiently. Allies can assist by sharing our posts, researching the facts that keep them knowledgeable and awake, and to simply come see what we are about. You may also visit Turtle Island’s Face Book Page.
Ma’iingan, or, Wolf Camp Is located near Duluth, MI.
Welcome to Ma’iingan Camp. We are located in Culver, MN between the Fond Du Lac reservation and Duluth, MN. Our camp plays a special role along fossil fuel pipeline, Line 3 in Minnesota. We serve as Camps A Rising’s gear and supply distribution center. Deliveries are trucked to us and then we redistribute gear and supplies to a string of camps located to our west along the pipeline. Our role as a think tank, cultural connection, a place to heal and offerings of environmental education benefit many people. We are designing this camp to become fully sustainable far into the future.
